ISI 2002-49. Echinopsis ‘Samadhi’ Limited Quantity

(1337-14). Flower to 4¾ inches (12 cm) wide. Petals moderate in width, truncate to obtuse, distal half reflexed, very strongly so at relatively cool temperatures, spectacularly colored in magenta with frosted edges, dark coppery basal stripe adds to appearance. Filaments mostly dark magenta. Throat-circle pink. Stigma, prominently exserted, white. Stem semicolumnar, to 4½ inches (11½ cm) in diameter; spines to 1 inch (26 mm) long.

‘Samadhi’ is not a prolific bloomer, but when it does flower at cool temperatures—wow! I was so taken with the blossom at the first flowering that I gave the hybrid the most admiring name I could think of—‘Samadhi’. Samadhi is Sanskrit for the highest stage in meditation in Hinduism and Buddhism in which a person attains a state of joyful calm, even of rapture and exalted happiness. So you can see how impressed I was! HBG 87025. Rooted offsets $9.50.
