This elegantly understated kalanchoe has flattened rosettes of glabrous, decussate leaves. These are simple and ovate with crenate margins and are of a color described as pinkish-fawn to reddish. At first the stems are hidden by the leaves but in age become thick and fleshy with a gnarled, almost caudiciform aspect. The flowers are pale pinkish and ephemeral, borne on wispy, slender-stalked inflorescences. The species is native to the mountains of western Saudi Arabia and Yemen. We offer seedlings from HBG 95218, a plant collected Jan. 18, 1997, by Nora Barboza (# 712) at 9000' in relatively wet hills along the road to Matnah, W of San’a’, Yemen. HBG 118469. $5.
