This tap-rooted Chilean cactus has dark purplish bodies with or without very short, dark spines atop rhomboidal tubercles. Flowers vary from creamy yellow to pinkish with woolly floral tubes and can have a lovely lemony scent. The species is native to the region of Taltal in Antofagasta Province of northern Chile, where, in at least part of its range it is endangered or extirpated by an expanding dumpsite. HBG 104730, $6.
