ISI 2014-4. Parodia ayopayana Cárdenas

This member of the genus Parodia, sensu strictu, typifies this group with it large, wooly areoles, and pastel flower color. When care is taken to avoid overhead watering, the tops become conspicuously wooly providing a charming nest for the abundant pastel orange flowers. Unlike some parodias, this is not as prone to rot and offsets to form multi-headed clusters. We offer rooted offsets of HBG 40834, a plant received from Abbey Brook Nursery in 1978, grown from seed collected at 1800 m elevation, Santa Rosa, Prov. Ayopaya, Dept. Cochabamba, Bolivia. $8.
