This monstrose form of E. hookeri subsp. guatemalensis can be found well-illustrated on the internet where it is often referred to as the Curly Locks Orchid Cactus. It is such a distinctive plant that it seems appropriate to recognize it officially here as a cultivar. The contorted stems twist and turn upon themselves and are rich green accented with tan-colored margins, the latter being characteristic of the subspecies. The stems are thick and leathery and largely resistant to blemishing so they can form an attractive and manageable hanging basket plant. Somewhat unusual for a monstrose plant, it is not shy to flower and is self-fertile so that even though the flowers may last only one night, showy pink fruits can ornament the plants for a longer period, assuming you can resist the urge to eat these tasty berries.
