ISI 2020-29. Sempervivum ×barbulatum ‘Hausmannii’

This attractive plant has rosettes of pubescent, red-tipped leaves. It was received as S. ×hausmannii from Uhlig’s nursery in Germany. This name is a synonym of S. ×barbulatum, the widely occurring natural hybrid of S. arachnoideum × S. montanum, so we have retained ‘Hausmannii’ as a cultivar. We offered the miniature selection ‘Hookeri’ of this cross in 2018. This plant looks very different with its larger, velvety-pubescent leaves. It has proven to be sufficiently heat tolerant for our southern California conditions but also tolerates any amount of freezing temperatures like the rest of the genus. It has even obliged us with its unusually colored flowers of pale yellow, ciliate petals with dark red bases and filaments that fade to pink. Rooted divisions of HBG 137667. $8.
