ISI 2022-22. Dyckia choristaminea Mez

The genus Dyckia from Brazil and northern Argentina comprises a collectible group of miniature plants for containers, as well as larger landscape candidates. Flowers are typically orange in color but are yellow and highly fragrant in this species. The blooms are also large in proportion to the rosettes and are more widely expanded and campanulate than the usually tubular orange flowers of other species. Despite their subtropical origins, dyckias are amply hardy in our southern California climate. The only problem we’ve had growing them in the garden is that bunnies seem to have a fondness for pineapples. We offer divisions of HBG 31524, a plant from John Bleck in 1973, who got it from that famed Dutch nursery of the van Donkelaar family. $10.
