ISI 2022-32. Orbea halipedicola L.C.Leach

Orbeas are generally native to tropical east Africa and therefore seem to prefer warmer cultural conditions than South African stapelias, for example. However, their flowers are among the most beautiful of stapeliads. This species from Mozambique bears two-inch flowers of dark maroon ornamented with bright yellow spots. Like other orbeas, the stems are also attractive with elongate, pointed tubercles that may look spiny at a glance but are completely fleshy and easy to handle. We offer divisions of HBG 126768, a plant from Uhlig’s nursery in Germany. $15.
