This is one of the larger members of the genus forming a woody-trunked shrub to 1 m. The thin branches are succulent with burgundy stems bearing cylindrical leaves resembling those of various shrubby mesembs. The flowers are especially showy for the genus—bright yellow daisies to 3 cm across produced in profusion on mature plants. This has grown easily for us and is propagated readily from cuttings. It should prove to be a useful landscape plant in Zone 9 and 10 Mediterranean climates. Rooted cuts of HBG 90232, a plant collected Aug 8, 1997, by J. Trager (97-32), in the hills W of Omega Farm, near Springbok, N Cape, S Africa. $6.
