Members of the bromeliad genus Abromeitiella are sometimes included in Deuterocohnia. Nevertheless, they form a distinctive group of hummock forming plants composed of densely clumping small rosettes with sessile inflorescences, the green tubular flowers barely emerging from the spinose foliage. In the case of A. lorentziana, the leaves are covered with white trichomes giving the plant a silvery appearance. This imparts a greater tolerance for full sun than in its common, green relative A. brevifolia and provides an attractive foil for the lime-green flowers. It is native to the Andes of northwest Argentina and is amply hardy to 20°F or lower. Rooted cuts of HBG 29366. $10.
