Published in Bruce Bayer’s seminal Haworthia Revisited (1999), this new species closely resembles a form of H. herbacea (a species that grows some two hundred kms to the west); it has similar clean growth, clumping habit and toothy-margined leaves but is generally darker in color. It is named in honor of noted naturalist Jan Vlok. Rooted offsets of HBG 82976, several clones grown from seed of Kobus Venter’s collection (JDV 91-2) from Meiringspoort, near De Rust, W. Cape, S. Africa. $8.
