Native to Sonora, Mexico and adjacent Arizona, the tight spination of this species can completely conceal the grooved tubercles characteristic of the genus. The pale beige radials interlace and are accompanied by one or two erect, often recurved centrals of similar diameter. Coupled with the sub-apical rings of light yellow, one-inch flowers, the plants give the impression of robust pediocacti. We offer HBG 93395, plants grown from seed collected by Rob Romero, Nov, 2006, at about 4000' altitude, from a grassy, rocky, south-facing slope, northwest of the Atacosa Mountains, Santa Cruz County, Arizona. $6.
