ISI 2013-29. Oxalis flava L.

This delightful geophyte is a winter grower with subterranean bulbs that survive the dry summer dormancy. Unlike some Oxalis that give the genus a bad name, it neither reseeds itself nor do the bulbs proliferate rampantly. The species is somewhat variable, but in this clone the leaves are 5-7 palmately compound, and the attractive flowers are yellow and 2 cm or more across. Divisions of HBG 99103, a plant received from Michael Vassar (MV 7440) ex Ernie de Marie at the New York Botanical Garden (NYBG 754/93A) with Bruce Bayer’s collection number MBB 2203. Alas, any further data is apparently lost in the only repository, the files of the Karoo Botanical Garden in Worcester, South Africa. $8.
