Uruguay does not possess the most diverse cactus flora, nor are there any endemic species. However, a number of popular horticultural subjects that are native to adjacent Brazil and Argentina also range into Uruguay. Parodia scopa is one of these with globular to semi-cylindric stems densely clothed with white radial spines and a few reddish centrals produced from white-wooly areoles. The flowers are of the notocactus type; satiny yellow with contrasting bright red stigmas. We offer seedlings from controlled pollination of plants from seed originally collected by Luis Wolman # 022 (as var. murielii, a name published without locality or description) in the Quebrada de los Cuervos, Treinta y Tres Department, Uruguay.
