Though some combine this species with F. felina, we retain the name F. candida for this distinctive, white-flowered (sometimes pink-tinged) species in this normally yellow-flowered genus. In fact, the epithet is from Latin and means “white” or “brilliant”. The foliage is also somewhat different from others being more or less uniform bright green without tubercles or pale speckling though the margins are lined with pale, recurved teeth and the leaf apex bears a white to pinkish keel. The species is native to the Cradock District of the E. Cape of S. Africa, which is a primarily summer rainfall area but in cultivation the plant can be watered year-round. It is said to be from Scanlan near Cradock but has not been seen in the wild since the original collection by McLane. HBG 119765, $7.
