This dwarf variety has rosettes 15 – 25 cm tall of frequently glaucous, bluish leaves (as in this collection) with a terminal spine 3 – 8 cm long. The variety occurs on limestone outcrops in the Mojave Desert of southern Nevada and adjacent California where it withstands extremes of heat, cold and aridity beyond the tolerance of most agaves. We offer rooted plantlets that formed unexpectedly as bulbils on a plant after it flowered in our Conservatory in 2011. The inflorescence was allowed to persist and only began to dry significantly as it formed bulbils which were harvested September 19, 2013. These gradually rooted and are now sufficiently established for this offering. Clearly this plant is not built for speed and therefore promises to be an enduring part of collections for years to come. We offer bulbils of HBG 60275, a plant originally collected by Bill Baker (6613) from a SE facing slope of limestone in the Kingston Range of SE California. $8.
