This Didiereaceous species has never been offered by the ISI but has been in cultivation for many years as it is fairly easily propagated by cuttings. However, this offering represents a new collection that has not yet enjoyed wide distribution. The species is a component of the thorn forests of Madagascar where it provides shade for a variety of dwarf succulents such as Aloe descoingsii offered below. It forms a shrub 1.5 to 2 m tall composed of slender branches armed with solitary spines that subtend single or paired, linear, terete leaves that can be long and pendent like string beans.
