This Didiereaceous species has never been offered by the ISI but has been in cultivation for many years as it is fairly easily propagated by cuttings. However, this offering represents a new collection that has not yet enjoyed wide distribution. The species is a component of the thorn forests of Madagascar where it provides shade for a variety of dwarf succulents such as Aloe descoingsii offered below. It forms a shrub 1.5 to 2 m tall composed of slender branches armed with solitary spines that subtend single or paired, linear, terete leaves that can be long and pendent like string beans. Rooted cuts of HBG 107179, collected by J. Lavranos (30075), G. Barad, G. James, M. Kimnach & S. Linden on October 30, 1995, 30 – 37 km N of Tulear, on the road to Morombe, Madagascar. $10.
