Native to Eritrea and Ethiopia, this relative of Aloe sinkatana also seems to be well-suited to cultivation in southern California. Flowers range from yellow to orange to scarlet, but the parents of our offering are yellow flowered plants. The racemes are more elongate than the capitate heads of Aloe sinkatana and provide a display of luminous, yellow flowers in winter. We offer HBG 138958, seedlings from controlled pollination of plants in the Desert Garden. The parent plants, HBG 119823, were from Anthon Ellert in 2008 and were grown from seed collected by Giuseppe Orlando (GO 211203) on the road to Aksum, Tigray Region, Ethiopia. $10.
