This Himalayan species superficially resembles Euphorbia canariensis, though it produces more branches from the upper stems and is a lighter green color with more ribs (5-7). It has thrived in the upper Desert Garden and a couple of years ago spontaneously set a crop of self-fertile seed. Therefore, we are able to offer seedlings as HBG 138967. The epithet honors John F. Royle (1798-1858), a British botanist and physician who collected extensively in India. Our parent plant, HBG 58351, ISI 1755, was grown from seeds collected by Indian botanist and physician J. S. Sarkaria (1919-2004) in the Subathu-Shiwalik Hills, Solan District, Government of Himachal Pradesh, India. $10.
