Flower with a vaguely spicy aroma, to 4¼ inches (10½ cm) across. Petals dark scarlet with lighter midrib. Throat-circle light orangish. Filaments dark scarlet; anthers cream-colored contrasting to petals. Stigma green. Stem semicolumnar, to 3 inches (7½ cm) across; central spines to ⅝ inch (16 mm) long.
